Celebrating Kindness

In September, Human Kind had the privilege of attending the Basildon Skills Show, an event designed to guide young adults in planning their futures after completing education. Staying true to our mission of spreading kindness, we organised a special opportunity for attendees: the chance to nominate someone exceptional in their lives to win an all-expenses-paid trip to London for afternoon tea.

The response was heartwarming, with numerous heartfelt nominations pouring in. After careful consideration, we were thrilled to award the prize to Alice Barnes, a dedicated member of the Enhanced Provision Department at Basildon Upper Academy. Alice’s nomination stood out because it came not from one, but three of her students, each with a touching story to share about her impact.

Here’s what her students had to say:

  • Student A:
"I nominate my teacher Miss Barnes. She has been through so much to earn our group's respect and goes out of her way for us to get the most opportunities possible. She's far from her family in Kent and deserves a nice day out without stress."

  • Student B:
"I think Miss Barnes should be nominated because she has always been here for us in school. She puts up with a lot to look after us and make sure we stay in school and get our education. She is always supporting us and trying to help the best she can and I feel we all appreciate her a lot. She's gone through a lot to get respect from the school and I feel that's why she deserves this."

  • Student C:
"Alice Barnes is amazing. She goes above and beyond for us. She doesn't live near her parents and it would be nice for her. She cares about all her students. She puts herself before us! She deserves this."

Alice’s dedication, selflessness, and care clearly make her an incredible role model and teacher. We hope this small gesture shows her how much she is valued not just by her students but by the entire community.

Thank you, Alice, for embodying the spirit of kindness and for making a difference every day. And to the students who took the time to nominate her, your words are a testament to how impactful gratitude and appreciation can be.
