Have you heard of Human Kind?

We’re a community charity cafe that seeks to provide safe, welcoming spaces where everyone can connect, share, and experience kindness.

Our Founder

I’m immensely proud of the weekly pop-up events our volunteers have hosted at The Reading Rooms. These sessions have given people experiencing social isolation and their families a safe, inclusive place where they can belong.

This matters. Loneliness is far more than just a bad feeling – I’ve experienced first hand the harm it can do to both individual and societal health. As a small boy, I moved with my parents from India to the UK. Like so many economic migrants of the time I witnessed racism and felt the pangs of social isolation. My experiences left an indelible mark and has spurred me to create the pay-what-you-can Human Kind Cafe in Billericay, a place where the entire community can work together to create a lasting sense of belonging for all.

Our not-for-profit cafe welcomes everyone, regardless of age, background, or perspective. We share our space and collaborate with local charities and community partners. Provide safe and welcoming training opportunities to help people build self-confidence and serve nourishing predominately vegan food that makes it easier for people to make their own conscious choices.

We hope Billericay’s message of kindness will spread across the UK. That’s why we enthusiastically share experiences to inspire others who, like us, strive to do the right thing and create a feeling of connection.

Thank you for taking the time to read about why the work of Human Kind matters so much. I invite you to visit the cafe as strangers and leave as friends.

Billericay Needs You

The number of Billericay residents living with crippling isolation is increasing all the time, and it is our youth, older people and those experiencing social exclusion due to unemployment, financial hardship, and ill health, particularly dementia, who feel most shut out and isolated.

This is happening, right here in Billericay. People tell us they struggle to find the sense of belonging they need. The mission of the Human Kind Cafe has never been more important.
